Can Non-Catholics be Saved? Maybe – Apr 24 – Homily – Fr Matthias

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Apr 24, 2024, on the life of St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen, who died as a martyr of unity in the Church, highlighting the importance of being in the Church for our salvation.
Father highlighted the life of St. Fidelis, a Franciscan Capuchin born in 1578, who gave up his legal career to serve God and preach to Protestants in Austria. Martyred in 1622, St. Fidelis's relics made a lasting impression on him during his visit to Feldkirch in 2011. He stresses the Catholic teaching that while salvation is possible outside the Church, it remains exceedingly difficult, underscoring the importance of the Church's mission to evangelize. Citing the popes, Father stressed that those outside the Church, whether through ignorance or negligence, face great challenges in achieving salvation. This duty to evangelize is rooted in Christ's command to prioritize Him over all else and is exemplified through the Church's teachings and resources, such as the sacraments and devotion to Mary, which aid in salvation.
