Presentation as Consecration – Nov 21 – Homily – Fr Matthias

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Nov 21, 2023, feast of Our Lady's Presentation in the temple, on how this was a public consecration, echoing her consecration during her Immaculate Conception. He then ties this into Jesus' role as High Priest and Redeemer and Mary's cooperation with him.
During her time in the temple, Our Lady and other young women learned various skills, including making the temple veil and priestly vestments. This included the seamless robe for the high priest, a unique garment in Palestine. This robe is significant as Jesus, during his crucifixion at Calvary, wore a seamless tunic (John 19:23-24 - They divided Jesus' garments among them - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/19?23).
Tradition suggests that Our Lady made this seamless robe for Jesus, acknowledging his role as the high priest and his sacrificial act for redemption (Hebrews 4:14-15 - Jesus the great high priest - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/hebrews/4?14). Our Lady knew her son's divine mission and her role in it, contributing to the Redemption as the Co-redemptrix.
This parallels the biblical narrative of the old Adam and Eve, who brought sin, and the new Adam (Christ) and Eve (Mary), who bring redemption (1 Corinthians 15:22 - As in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/1corinthians/15?22).
