FS #53 : Mary’s Role, Part 7 – Nov 08 – Homily – Fr Terrance
Views 323
Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Nov 08, 2023, on how Franciscan Spirituality emphasizes Our Lady's role in God's plan, today focusing on her Assumption into heaven after her death following her Son Jesus Christ and how highlights her Universal Queenship.
Franciscan spirituality very much aligns with the dogma of Mary's Assumption into Heaven, which was solemnly defined in 1950. This privilege connects to Mary's predestination to be immaculately conceived and intimately associated with Jesus, as she is more God's daughter than Adam's. Although all Adam's children are born in sin and return to dust, the law of sin and death don't apply to Mary and Jesus, predestined for glory before sin. Jesus rose by His own and the Father's power, dying to glorify God and pay for sins. Completely conformed to Jesus, after finishing her mission, Mary was assumed into Heaven. Her serene, loving death wasn't caused by sickness or external factors. Jesus sees Mary as the flesh of His flesh and dwelt in her virgin womb. At Calvary, she already mystically shared in Jesus' death. United with Him in triumph, her Assumption consecrates her queenship, making her the first fruit of the glorification we're all called to. At judgment, she'll sit at Jesus' right hand. Her glorification completes God's plan centered on Jesus, so we should ask her for the grace to set our minds on Heaven, where she sits with her Son.
