Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Sep 15, 2023, feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, on Mary's embrace of suffering, offered to God, had co-redemptive value, revealing that surrendering to God's will lead to spiritual growth and union.

On the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady, we contemplate how Our Lady's sufferings, which she embraced and offered to God, had co-redemptive value, contributing to our redemption (Benedict XV, John Paul II). She lost to gain, as Jesus taught, finding everything in God when we surrender our sufferings to Him. To celebrate suffering, we must accept it and offer it to God, as Our Lady did. Suffering, seen in this Marian light, becomes a path to spiritual growth and union with God.
