Catechesis on Sexuality 6: Errors of Gender Theory – Sep 07 – Homily – Fr Terrance

 

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Sep 07, 2023, where he continues his series "Catechesis on Sexuality," explaining here the errors of modern gender theory, focusing on how the language of this ideology warps our sense of truth that becomes so dark that we need to have much compassion on those who get caught in its web.

Today's Gospel speaks of Jesus promising Simon Peter to make him a fisher of men, emphasizing our mission to spread the Gospel. We must combat false teachings, including gender theory, which is riddled with philosophical errors. Gender theory is likened to Medusa from Greek mythology, representing various philosophical errors. Pope Benedict XVI in 2011 called gender theory an Anthropology Opposed to Faith and Right Reason. Pope Francis has also criticized gender theory. As Catholics, we believe in Genesis 1:27 - God created us male and female - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/genesis/1?27.

The Vatican II document, Gaudium et Spes 36 - https://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_ec21gs.htm - when God is forgotten, the creature itself grows unintelligible. Gender theory denies creation and the creator. We believe in the reality of male and female, while gender ideology promotes harmful interventions. Catholics believe in the unity of body and soul, while gender ideology sees only the mind and will. We believe in shared human nature, while gender ideology denies it. We believe in truth, while gender ideology denies its existence.

We believe in the sacredness of life, human beings, and their sexuality. The gender movement profanes God's creation. We must pray for those who transition, as they are often victims of societal pressures. Sister Lucia, a visionary of Fatima, once said that the battle between Christ and Satan would be over marriage and the family. In opposing gender ideology, we fight for Christ's kingdom.
