Mary Leads Us to Repentance, Mercy – Aug 05 – Homily – Fr Alan

 

In the homily for the First Saturday of August (Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major - August 5, 2023), Fr. Alan reflects on how the Old Testament institution of the sabattical and jubilee years predisposes men to mercy and a more humane way of relating to each other and to the land. In some way, this institutional renewal of relationships suggests the New Testament practice of Holy Confession, our way being renewed in grace. Devotion to Mary, such as the Five First Saturdays devotion, are a means to our own continual renewal and growth in grace.
