Christian Virtue: Rooted in the Hope of the Reward – Jul 30 – Homily – Fr Alan

Fr Alan gives the homily for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ( July 30, 2023) at New Bedford, explaining the mysterious quality of the Kingdom of God that makes it both present, here and now, and yet elusive, beyond the temporal order. Amid the distractions of this life which impede our pursuit of eternal life, we must "keep eyes on the prize"--cultivate awareness of that eternal reward to which we strive, and those behaviors that carry us through time to eternity, that is, the practice of the theological virtues, of faith, hope, and charity: "At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love" (1 Cor 13:12-13).
