Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Jul 14, 2023, where he continues his series on Franciscan Spirituality, and finishes his explanation of how the idea of Christ as the supreme glorifier through His Incarnation relates to the doctrinal Christocentric basis of this spirituality.

Today's reflection further explores Franciscan spirituality, particularly Christ's role as a glorifier, which we see in the writings of St. John the Apostle and St. Paul. St. John's perspective descends from above, beginning with [John 1:1 - The Word was in the beginning - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/1?1], emphasizing the Word's centrality to all life [John 1:4 - In him was life - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/1?4] and creation [John 1:3 - All things were made through him - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/1?3]. His narrative follows the Word's journey as creator, sanctifier, and glorifier, encapsulating Christ's glory [John 1:14 & 17 - Word became flesh, full of grace and truth - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/1?14].

On the other hand, St. Paul's perspective ascends from the bottom, observing how all creation leads to Christ [1 Corinthians 3:22 - All things are yours - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/1corinthians/3?22]. This encompasses our role in creation, our own dominion, and our union with Christ [1 Corinthians 3:23 - You are Christ's and Christ is God's - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/1corinthians/3?23]. Christ is the cornerstone that binds all creation [1 Peter 2:6 - Christ is the cornerstone - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/1peter/2?6] and holds dominion [Psalm 8:5 & 6 - You have given him dominion over the works of your hands - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/psalms/8?5]. This culminates in Christ's prayer to include us in his glory [John 17 - Christ's prayer for his disciples - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/17].

Both St. John and St. Paul depict Christ as the universal glorifier, with St. John focusing on God's descent to Earth, and St. Paul highlighting our being engrafted into Christ's humanity. Let's strive to reflect Christ's character and glory here and in the afterlife.
