Called to God’s Presence – May 06 – Homily – Fr. Tom Kovatch

 

Guest Homilist gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on May 06, 2023, on how doing the will of God is much easier when we see God, when we see Christ, because doing the will of God means getting to heaven to be with Him for all eternity. He reflects on how the eucharist is His presence and a foretaste of being with him in heaven.

Jesus' words to his apostles, who struggled to understand His divine nature, tell them that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him (John 14 - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/14), revealing the mystery of the Holy Trinity. He emphasizes the importance of doing God's will and promises that whoever believes in Him will do great works.

The apostles were initially fearful and hesitant but were transformed when they encountered the risen Christ. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, they went forth to build the Church. Similarly, we are called to bring Christ into the world and do God's will, even in the face of persecution.

At the heart is the Eucharist, where we encounter Jesus in a profound way. We must encourage others to embrace this gift, as we are sent forth to serve others and spread God's love. Just as Jesus fed the multitude with a few loaves and fish (Matthew 14 - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/matthew/14), He nourishes us with His body, blood, soul, and divinity so that we can go out and bring His presence to the world.

In conclusion, let us remember that God is always with us and seek to do His will in all things, just as Mary did. Amen.
