Jesus serves His Father and gains merit for us all by sacrificing himself, even though His death seems to be counterproductive to his mission. Judas also serves God's plan but unknowingly and without merit, as he betrays his Master. Jesus is persecuted and suffers not because he is wicked but because he is righteous, but his afflictions prepare and inspire us to look past our relatively short afflictions and toward eternal glory beyond all comparison.
