Humility is the Key to Sanctity- Mar 13 – Homily – Fr John Lawrence

 

Fr John Lawrence gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Mar 13, 2023, on the importance of humility to bring God's blessings as outlined in today's readings for mass. God healed Naaman, the pagan, rather than Israelite lepers because he sought a cure more ardently than those in Israel and was humble. A similar dynamic is with the foreign widow who had faith and was helped by Elijah, the prophet, as Jesus recounts when he visits Nazareth, his hometown. And, to underscore the point, just mentioning Isreal's lack of humility stokes his townsfolk into a furious attempt to kill him. He relates this to the New Covenant and our zeal to seek the sacraments and replace our vices with virtues.
