Benedict’s Resignation and Francis’ Election – Dec 31 – Homily – Fr Matthias

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Dec 31, 2022, where he gives a prayer for the soul of Pope Emeritus Benedict, who passed away early this morning, and then explains the impossibility of the suggestion of many bloggers and podcasters that Benedict was still the Pope due to some sort of deficiency in his resignation in 2013 and that Francis is an Antipope (someone who claims to be the pope when the real pope is still in power) both due to Benedict still being the pope and due to alleged irregularities in Francis' election. He explains 1.) the gravity of such a suggestion, 2.) how we know that Benedict did, in fact, resign, and 3.) that Francis really did become Pope. He points out that none of the cardinals involved in the conclave ever came forth and said that they were pressured in any way or that any other thing occurred that could make the election invalid, i.e. Pope Francis is the Pope.
