St Francis: Rebuilding the Church with Mary – Oct 04 – Homily – Fr Matthias

 

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Oct 04, 2022, solemnity of St Francis of Assisi, on how he followed Christ because, just like Him, he gave up great wealth in order to give glory to God and build the Kingdom of God. He explains what St Francis was not (but is popularly attributed to him) and what he actually was. He combined the love of poverty and austerity with love and respect for priests and bishops even when they were not living and striving for the salvation of souls as they should be. He also had a devotion to Mary, calling her the Spouse of the Holy Spirit, and thus devotion to her is the way to rebuild the Church, which was his central vocation, as well as his friars.  This is why Franciscans promoted the Immaculate Conception and why we are promoting concentration to the Immaculate and marianizing our lives, ... to rebuild the Church.
