Mary and the Redemption – Sep 24 – Homily – Fr Elias

 

Fr Elias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Sep 24, 2022, on how Our Lady of Ransom or Mercy, which is commemorated today along with the founding of the Mercedarians who paid ransom for prisoners in the medieval ages, and how this relates to Jesus rescuing us from the bondage of sin and how Our Lady was integral in this redemption, and thus was Coredemptrix. He points out that this participation of Our Lady was quite active and involved her consent with her foreknowledge and how this fulfills the prophecy of Simeon that a sword of sorrow will pierce her heart as well. He relates this to the many titles of Mary and of Christ and outlines the many references to Mary as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix of all Graces, and Advocate for Sinners.
