Monica’s Redemptive Tears – Aug 27 – Homily – Fr Matthias

 

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Aug 27, 2022, on the life of St. Monica, the mother of St. Augustine, working on the conversion of her family through her tears. She first worked on the conversion of her husband and then her sons, the crown of her efforts being Augustine. As such, she exemplifies the value of suffering for the redemption of others. Only suffering that is offered up to Our Lord is beneficial, and she taught others who were in the same position. He then compares this role of coredemption to Mary the Mother of the Redeemer, whose suffering we should revere to unlock the full power of the redemption.
