Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Jun 14, 2022, on the vice of lust as it relates to the 6th Commandment. He covers:

Meaning of Lust inordinate pursuit of sexual desires

Priests, nuns, virgins, and single men must be chaste regardless of their desire

Desire is not a sin, but a gift from God

Satan is a liar but also unclean, impure

Lust is Love's counterfeit, and can be a substitute for God, trying to find satisfaction apart from God

Lust vs Love, a big contrast

Lust is blind, God is Love who gives light and sight so true Love love is not blind

Lust is always a sin

Strategies to avoid the snare of lust:

Peter Kreeft: Back to Virtues https://www.amazon.com/Back-Virtue-Traditional-Wisdom-Confusion/dp/0898704227

Sometimes you need to run from temptation, not confront it head-on.

Focus less on lust and more on avoiding pride. All is not lost if you fall into the sin of lust. The humiliation of such a fall reduces pride. The humble have the grace to conquer lust.

Bring all thoughts under control through obedience to Christ. Thought is the rudder of Life. thoughts come and can control which appear in our minds

Lust is an addiction and should be treated as such, Less talk and more self-discipline, accountability, and grace

Lastly: Akathist Hymn to Mary O Tenderness conquering all desire. basically, a tender loving God is who keeps us from falling into lust
