Ave Maria Meditations
Mother of Mercy! What words more sweet in the sinner’s ear! The past has been a long record of sin and sinfulness, of Grace abused and calls neglected. God’s inspirations have been despised, His patience abused, His anger defied. In terror the soul looks back on a misspent life; in horror it thinks of a judgment, just and searching, to come.
How face the look of an angry God? How stand before Him to Whom nothing is hidden? How answer for the days and years squandered which were given to serve Him alone? Oh! Turn then, poor soul, and look to Mary. Look to her who is all merciful that she may obtain for you pardon and mercy. She is kind and loving; she has a mother’s heart full of pity for the erring, a Mother of Mercy to the sinner and fallen. (+Father Willie Doyle,S.J.)
We see the mercy of Our Lady immediately after the Annunciation as she went in haste to the aid of her cousin St. Elizabeth. The works of mercy are both spiritual and corporal!
