Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on May 20, 2022, on how the 5th commandment, you shall not kill, and how this relates to the respect for life, including self-defense, the dignity of the human person, the death penalty, homicide, abortion, fetal experimentation, designer babies.

Three parts, Respect life, Dignity of person, be a peacemaker

Respect for human life, legitimate defense, homicide

Legitimate defense, in presence of a dangerous aggressor who is unjust, the response must be in proportion, this includes the need to defend those under your charge, children, police,

Death penalty: current edition says not an option

Homicide: gravely sinful, killing others, endangering someone, or not helping someone

Causing needed suffering to animals

Procured, willed abortion always has been sinful, includes accomplices, incurs automatic excommunication

Priests now have the authority to absolve the sin of abortion, and the need to forgive oneself

damaging experimentation on embryos is sinful, again respect for life

Selective altering of genes, designer babies are sinful
