Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on May 10, 2022, on the 4th Commandment that we should honor and respect our mother and father.

CCC  2197-2257 http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2.htm

CCC 2197 - Regarding the commandments 4-10 - Respect for marriage, life, authority, for other people's property

CCC 2205 - Parents partake in the creative work of God. Family is created in the image of God, a reflection of the Holy Trinity. Parents just understand that they are the first representative of God from which they learn much.

But we must respect them even if they are not perfect.

CCC 2216 Obedience to our parents, when they live with them. Limited by one's conscience. When they leave home obedience ceases but they do need to respect their parents

Disrespect and immaturity go together.

Patents supported us so we should in their times of need

Having healthy boundaries is good

Finally but not least must love our parents, which includes mercy and forgiveness

We also must live a good life to show respect to our parents and give honor to the name we have received from them.
