Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Mar 18, 2022, where he uses the first reading on how the terrible twin sisters of envy and jealousy lead the brothers of Joseph to sell as a slave to the Egyptians. Eliminating these will be a miraculous cure for avoiding our own sins and miseries and that of all society.

Notes:

Many ways that envy and jealousy cause sin and rejection of God, David, Pharisees ...

Difference between Jealousy and Envy, June Hunt

Envy is empty hands, wanting what others have, Jesalosy is full hands worried about losing what they have ...

Envy, don't trust that God will give us what we need, Jealousy, we fear that God will take away what we need.

Remedies:

Jesus Is the calm in the storm of envy and jealousy, keep focused on him, not on things of this world.

Develop a deeper relationship with God through loving him.

Gratitude is a good antidote, thankfulness to God for what he has given and who he is

this is a half-full mentality focus on what we have, and God will cause

whereas jealousy and envy is half-empty

Shift focus from receiving to giving:

JFK - Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country but

Give and it will be given to you. Better to give than receive Acts 20 :35

Mother Teressa - giving helps us to get out our selves, out of our self-centered bubbles.

Contentment is another antidote, be content in whatever state you are in

St Paul - For the sake of Christ, I am content, when I am weak then I am strong, rely on God's power  - 1 Tim 6 :6

Keep your life free from love of money and focus on Christ, Christ will never leave you. Heb 13 :5
