Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Feb 18, 2022, on how on the 14th Mark of Charity, on how love hopes all things, as he continues his series on the Marks of Charity based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Definition expectation of something good
We should go from hope to hope, not pleasure to pleasure
Love believes that no one is hopeless
Faith is opposed to infidelity and hope is security against despair.
People despair because they lose hope
Hope is the assurance of things hoped for.
Head and heart again as in faith
Faith is confidence in God, trust, heart, hope is putting our hope in God, again the heart
Pagans had no hope, "Eat during and be merry, for tomorrow we die"
Epicureans a philosophy of despair, pleasure is the only thing worth living for, like today
We must go beyond this as the Good News of the Bibles tells us of the resurrection
There is something better beyond the grave, this hope is quite central and its foundation
CCC 2662 faith, hope, and charity are the sources of prayer http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/para/2662.htm
We hope to get good things from Him
To expect prayers of petition
To avoid despair and frustration ask God and Our Lady to give the spirit of gratitude to God for all he has done for us and even the crosses
Gratitude is often the missing key in our lives
CCC 1817 http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/para/1817.htm
Hope is linked to grace
We often put too much stress on things of this world
Hope puts our hearts in the right place when we hope in God
Love hopes all things
