Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Jan 22, 2022, the 5th Mark of Charity, love is not arrogant, continuing his series on the Marks of Charity (1 Corinthians 13:5)

Notes:

Arrogance is having an exaggerated opinion of ourselves, being important in our own eyes.

Balloon analogy: Helium rises us to heaven vs our own CO2 that makes us sink the ground

High opinion of ourselves but lowers us to the ground spiritually, in God's eyes

Helium is like Holy spirit, lifts us up to heaven

Arrogance linked to hatred

Humility linked to Love

Paul afraid to visit Corinthians because there he might find the opposite traits from love as found in 1 Cor 12 including arrogance.

Arrogance puffs up but love builds up

Do not belittle those who are less knowledgeable than others even other Christians

Do not crush others by our knowledge

Virtues are important but if combined with viciousness then it is bad

Knowledge sometimes runs ahead of charity

Even faith without love is bad  1 Cor 13:2

Love fosters unity and community, builds bridges not burns them

Ask Our lady to give us humility and love.
