The Life of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Widow, Patroness of Third Order (d. 1231) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Nov 17. St. Elizabeth of Hungary was the Queen of Hungary and was happily married to the king. She very diligently took care of the poor and sick. On the death of her husband, she was kicked out of the palace on Christmas eve and she and her children were destitute but she rejoiced to be treated like Christ and the Holy Family. She turned down the offer of marriage from the emperor and lived the life of a religious as a third order sister, taking care of the poor.
Reflection is on Nobility of Soul
Taking care of poor
Avoiding vanity of courts and prestige
Prooving fidelity and being purified through suffering
Thus preparing oneself for heaven
