Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Nov 16, 2021, where he continues his series on the beatitudes given by Jesus on the sermon on the mount. He covers the fourth beatitude on spiritual justice, blessed are those who seek justice
Matthew 5:6 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/mt/5?6#48005006
"Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied"
Notes:
The desire for food and drink are used as a hungering for God and justice
God wants our first priority to be Him
Getting close to Him requires righteousness, justice. We must thirst for righteousness, justice
The modern world conflates the earthly kingdom with the heavenly, the result is marxism on the left and conservativism on the right.
We get wrapped up in the political justice struggle and can forget about God and the virtues like prudence, respect for our brothers and sisters, and our religious and secular superiors
Christ told us to love our enemies
Extremes look for justice outside of ourselves rather than first establishing justice in our own hearts, which will actually bring God closer to ourselves and bring the peace of the kingdom of God to all.
We must keep in mind that God wins in the end and not get upset in the face of injustice
Righteousness is synonymous with holiness, weeping for our sins leads to righteousness
Problem is that we desire too little, we need to desire more and we will be just and blessed in our justice.
