In this 15th encounter with Dr. J. Isaac Goff over Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner's "The Theologian of Auschwitz", we get a sneak peek at the rest of the book and then introduce the content of the next chapters about the theory undergirding St. Maximilian's vision of the Two Pages, the Golden Thread, and the Cause of the Immaculate.

To prepare, first we look at the meaning of Evolution and Simplification in history and in the spiritual life. This turns to the Franciscan encounter with the Critical Question of modern philosophy of relating myself to the external world, in the Franciscan mind the choice between humble reception of creation as a gift from a loving and lovable God, or pride's demand that the external world (and its source) justify itself before me.

This opens to the question of the rapport and relative priority of Theology/Scripture/Metaphysics and History. Augustine's conflictual and Bonaventure's optimistic theologies of history are contrasted, and a critical clarification of the "term" metaphysics is made between mere philosophical abstraction vs. a Christian meaning pivoting around real persons in relation in a meaningful world. Related to this is the debate between classic theism and theistic personalism, with the first tending to forget what is "the person" and the second transposing fallen human psychological experience onto the source of all being.

Also visited are the constant Franciscan problems of poverty and arbitrary voluntarism. The Sanctification of the Intellect under the interior teaching of Mary and the poverty of belonging to her as children as posited as solutions to these problems.

Finally, we conclude with a discussion about the true and real maternity of Mary bearing Jesus compared and contrasted with the Eternal Paternity of the Father begetting the Son. This important analogy cannot be taken to summarize the whole or the heart of Mary's reflecting of the Trinity in her own person, for Creation and Recreation are specifically tied to the Spirit and she brings forth, not in a divine and a-sexual way as the Father does, but specifically as a woman, The Woman.
