Avoiding an Unhealthy Pastime – Aug 31 – Homily – Fr Terrance
Views 560
Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Aug 31, 2021, on how we need to avoid the habit of criticizing our bishops. It is ok to see and even point out problems with the bishops on occasion, but we must ask if the amount or type of criticizing is helpful or unhelpful, humble or prideful, respectful or disrespectful, are we fostering a self-righteous spirit of criticism?
He upholds the example of St. Francis who looked for Christ in his bishops, not the sinner. True reform begins with ourselves. We must become saints first. To follow the hyper-criticism route can lead us outside of the Church where we outright deny the authority of the hierarchy and joining groups that are not fully in the Church.
