The Life of St. Louis of Toulouse, Confessor, First Order (1274-1297) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Aug 19. St. Louis of Toulouse was the nephew of King St. Louis. He renounced his kinship to follow God. When he was sick he vowed to enter the Franciscans had to defer until given permission from his father. Boniface VIII made him bishop of Toulouse but under the condition of joining the Franciscans at age 21. As bishop he worked hard for his diocese and for the help of the poor, working many conversions. He died at age 24 and is the Patron Saint of youthful students.
Reflection is St. Louis' example to, and intercessor for, youthful students, the importance of faith in such students, and the need to help them avoid ambition and sensuality.
