Love: Divine Attributes #13 – Jun 16 – Homily – Fr Terrance

 

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Jun 16, 2021, on how God is Love, that love is His primary attribute. Father describes the different types of love from the more base desires, to friendship to higher agape, charity, that focuses on giving and not receiving and this describes God's generous love. Father relates this to the Trinity and the love between the three divine persons. He mentions the teachings of Richard of St. Victor on the analogy between the Trinity and the human family, husband, wife, and child. This is also seen in the sacrificial love that Christ exemplified on Calvary and the participation of Mary. This relates to our spiritual life as hope and faith disappear as we enter heaven, love will last because God is love and the love of God is the grace that sanctifies us. This helps us to focus on others and God and forget about ourselves and to keep our love burning brightly as a preparation for heaven.
