In the homily for the memorial of St. Jane Frances de Chantal (Religious, Foundress of the Order of the Visitation of Mary, Aug. 12, 2019), Fr. Alan relates today’s Gospel to the life of St. Jane Frances. Jesus’ comment about the temple tax and the extraordinary sign he worked indicate his sovereignty over all of creation; St. Jane’s constancy despite profound difficulties and disappointments, both material and spiritual, show her understanding of that sovereignty and her trust and abandonment to God’s will.
