Unity in Obedient Charity – Sep 30 – Homily – Fr Terrance

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Sep 30 on how God's grace can work in people in unexpected ways. He bases this on the readings form today where people outside of the religious norms give prophecy or perform miracles. He relates this to division within the Church. This has a source in spiritual immaturity where people think more carnally and how the devil tries to divide, but the doctrine, the creed and the sacraments help us to stay together. However beyond this three virtues are also need for unity in the Church obedience, humility and charity. First obedience, out of reverence for divine authority as in pastors, bishops and Popes.
The second, humility. Three degrees of humility of St. Ignatius: https://www.magisspirituality.org/spex_reflection/1-2-3-degrees-of-humility/
- Submission to divine majesty
- Willing to sacrifice anything rather than
- Prefer poverty and humiliations over riches and honors
Charity is last but by no means least.
We should correct where necessary and where appropriate, but always show mercy.
