Ave Maria Meditations
Station V: Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry His cross
Simon, a passerby, is converted when He sees the love that emanates from Jesus’ face. He wonders how this man, Jesus, can still love when he is being so tortured by His enemies. Simon’s conversion is a sign of hope to us all. It assures us that God’s grace and loving Presence is always there for those who seek the truth.
O Jesus, when I am at my absolute worse, may Your perfect love emanate from my being, so others can find You in my suffering. You will never fail us when we need You the most. You and Your mother will never leave us alone or abandoned. For You Yourself said, “Come to me, all You who are burdened and I will give you rest”. As You never abandon me, may we never abandon You, Lord, or any needy soul for any selfish end or any empty pleasure.
After each Station, pray “Jesus, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee”
