He relates this to the true nature of marriage with Paul's admonition for husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church, a sacrificial love even to the point of shedding blood. He also mentions the miracle of Lanciano where the Eucharist turned to the actual appearance of the flesh of Christ's heart and how the town is named after the lance of St. Longinius, the Roman soldier who pierced Jesus with the Lance, became a Christian and settled in that town in his retirement.
