The friars had a bushfire not far from their Perth friary on March 13, 2011. It looked really bad at first, but it was on the other side of a limestone quarry in a native bush parkland area surrounded by firefighters. If the wind changed direction, or the fire managed to get around the quarry, then we might have a repeat of last year's fire. Fortunately, the firefighters kept the perimeter of the fire under control and pretty much let the interior burn. Planes and helicopters dropped water on the fire all day and just before evening it was put out.
