The Children of This World Are Wiser than the Children of Light

Why we are losing the war for marriage and the family.

It’s not just a matter of money. It’s also a matter of zeal, commitment and ingenuity.

    Hi Fr.

    How are you?

If I may, I wanted to add to your statement and suggest two starting points. I do not have all the answers; I am engaging you in a dialogue to learn from it.

I think we need to start within our “borders” and root out some of the stupidity.

Start with the stupidity……Speaking of children and stupidity, we have to defend moves like this one

that originate from within. Although I have not seen the book, I am sure the hovering angel and the lurking priest will definitively elevate my trust and encourage me to be more Catholic.

In addition, although as people we are fallible, I find standing up for the Church teachings becomes difficult when my “opponent??? can simply destroy my whole argument by referring to an example that contradicts my position.

I call to mind, to illustrate via example, the pastoral provision that allows men to be married and be a priest. If I speak to a protestant friend who does not agree with celibacy, he simply has to point to Fr. Joe in Parish XYZ who is a married priest. My protestant friend does not care that the pastoral provision is an exception. All he knows is why does the Church permit marriage in one case, and not in others – a riddle I am yet to resolve in my mind. There are other examples, but, for brevity, I will stop here.

Second and I realize this general statement will not apply to all bishops and priests. But, I note that many priests/bishops live in luxurious mansions and favor a prestigious lifestyle. I am not saying priests have to go hungry or be cold, but, I feel priests are more like the Denethor, Steward of Gondor, foreseeing doom and doing nothing. Denethor, as you may recall, sits in his hall, barking orders. He even sends his son to die while enjoying spoils. When the Dark Lord attacks, Denethor abandons his post….

I know there are a few bishops that speak out here and there. But, as a body, as leaders of the Catholic Church in the US, where are they? Yes, sitting in their halls riding the politically correct line.

    Hope all is well.
