One of the prerequisites for being a disciple of Christ is seeing and acknowledging our own nothingness before God. Prayer is, in fact, the acknowledgment that I am not God. The modern secularist refuses to pray and, consequently, finds himself saturated in vice. When a soul turns from God and seeks an earthly happiness, she either must be content to live with a superficial, incomplete view of life, or she always finds something lacking, something - nay, Someone - missing in all her pursuits. Fr. Maximilian addresses such a soul in today's homily and bids her to turn back to the light of life.
