Mar 02 – Homily – Fr John Joseph: Dominion of God

Homily #140302m ( 18min) Play – Pulling both from today’s Mass readings and from today’s Office of Readings (Job 1:1-22), Fr. John Joseph calls to mind that we are stewards in this world, and we need to use the things of this world for the greatest glory of God. Just like Job, we need to be detached from all things, and recognize that God has dominion over all things. With the approach of the Lenten Season, are we sufficiently prepared to detach ourselves from the world, and attach ourselves to the providence of God?

Homily #140223m ( 15min) Play – Fr. John Joseph talks about the difficult message in today’s Gospel, calling for us to respond to our enemies with charity, not with revenge. He reminds us that we will be rewarded in heaven for the amount of charity we give, and punished for the vengeance we’ve exacted. With this crucial response to those who hurt us, let us follow Our Lord’s final command in this Gospel message: “Be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect.”

Jan 18 – Homily – Fr John Joseph: Drawing Souls to Christ 2

Homily #140118m ( 11min) Play – Building on his homily from yesterday, Fr. John Joseph brings Our Lady, Queen of Peace into the mix. He shows that true understanding of our faith requires us to put it into demonstration. We will cause division if we are too critical of others and do not examine ourselves. If there is division, there is no peace, and without peace, there is no unity of all souls under the headship of Christ.

Homily #140117m ( 11min) Play – Fr. John Joseph talks about today’s Gospel passage, and calls each of us to reflect on the different people within this miracle narrative. We must learn humility from the paralytic man himself by accepting in charity the help of others. We must have great faith like the friends of the paralytic, who, by the strength of their faith, brought another to Christ. Looking at these examples, as well as that of St. Anthony of the Desert, let us have great faith and draw others, through the Immaculate, to life in Christ.

Jul 25 – Homily – Fr John Joseph: St. James and Spain

Homily #120725m ( 16min) Play - Ave Maria!

Fr. John Joseph reflects on Dom Prosper Gueranger’s commentary on today’s feast. In the battle for Spain, we see that the Spanish were all but eliminated from Spain as the Islamic Moors tried to establish a foothold from which to move into the rest of Europe. From the small remnant that survived, the Spanish slowly pushed the Moors out of Spain over the course of 700 years.

Likewise, Catholics are again being reduced to a remnant by hostile and powerful forces such as Islam and secularism. Unless Catholics are generous in their faith, their family size, and in offering their children to the service of God, there will not be future generations to keep the churches open, to populate the ranks of clergy and religious, and to continue to proclaim the Gospel to all nations.

Above all, we must pray and make sacrifices. And, as the Spanish did, let us have recourse to St. James, Son of Thunder, that he may aid us with his prayers and deliver us from our foes.

Mass: St. James the Greater, Apostle – 2nd Cl – Form: EF, Mihi Autem
