Month of Mary 29 – Marian Entrustment and Divine Mercy

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

Click to Play Video

Month of Mary #29 ( 07min) Play – Today we look at the homily St. John Paul II gave at Fatima, Portugal, on May 13th, 1982, exactly 65 years after the first apparition of Mary at that spot, and exactly one year after he was shot in an assassination attempt which, according to him, was foiled by Our Lady. In this important homily, the newly canonized Holy Father reflects on the link between Divine Mercy and Marian Entrustment. It is Mary who brings us to the cross, which is the source of Divine Mercy, and by entrusting ourselves to her, we abandon ourselves to her and by her maternal mediation She helps us offer ourselves more fully to Christ in His own self-offering to the Father for our own redemption.

Today’s Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, living in Mary. Draw me in, with, and through Mary to the Fountain of Love and Mercy.

Ave Maria!

May 29 – Homily – Fr Joachim: No Backup Plan

Homily #140529n ( 04min) Play - Father Joachim’s relates a catechetical tale reminding us that God doesn’t have a backup plan for evangelizing the world, we are the plan. Do we use the gifts we have been given for God’s glory or our own? We have no choice but to evangelize, life does have meaning, love is more powerful than hate, and we must be Christ in the world today. If we don’t do, it won’t be done!
Ave Maria!

Month of Mary 28 – And He Took Her Into His Home

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

Click to Play Video

Month of Mary #28 ( 07min) Play – Having looked as St. John Paul II’s teachings on the preparation Mary was lead through, we now look at what he says about Marian Consecration, or as he phrases it, Marian Entrustment. We return to the Foot of the Cross, and hear the words, “Behold, your Mother”. What does it mean, how should we respond to this gift? The Holy Father tells us to look at the next phrase, “And … he took her unto his own home”. Father unpacks what this means, and shows how by entrusting ourselves to Her, She will lead us to Jesus. And that’s the point!

Today’s Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, living in Mary. Prepare me to entrust myself completely to Mary so she can bring me closer to Christ.

Ave Maria!

Month of Mary 27 – God’s Mother, Your Mother, My Mother

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

Click to Play Video

Month of Mary #27 ( 08min) Play – For a third day, we continue to look at the God’s preparation of Mary. Today, we look at the final preparation and actualization of Mary’s Spiritual Maternity: the Crucifixion. Let us reflect that as She, the Coredemptrix, stood beside the Cross, Her love for us was intensified, She heard the same “I Thirst” Mother Teresa did, and also the words “Behold your son”. Notice the concreteness of this, we are given Mary as our Mother individually, and She receives us not as a vague crowd, but, as any mother receives her children, as individuals with a unique relationship with Her. She is God’s Mother, She is Your Mother, and She is My Mother; uniquely, particularly, and personally.

Today’s Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, living in Mary. Thank you for the gift of my loving Mother, Mary.

Ave Maria!

Month of Mary 26 – Mary’s Preparation (cont.)

Monday, May 26th, 2014

Click to Play Video

Month of Mary #26 ( 06min) Play - Today we continue reflecting on Our Lord’s preparation of Mary for Her role as spiritual mother and mediatrix. We focus on the Wedding at Cana, examining St. John Paul II’s teaching from paragraphs 21 and 22 from his encyclical Redemptoris Mater (bit.ly/RedemptorisMater). We can take three points away for our meditation, (1) Mary’s role is not by necessity, but by the will of God, (2) Mary needs servants to carry out the will of God under Her direction, and (3) Mary’s mediation is in union with and subordinate to the one mediation of Jesus Christ, Her savior and ours.

Today’s Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, living in Mary. Remind me to ask for Mary’s powerful intercession in my times of need.

Ave Maria!
