Sep 21 – Homily – Card. Burke: Calling of Matthew

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015
Click to Play

Homily #150921l ( 16min) Play – Cardinal Raymond Burke reflects on the Gospel account of the calling of St. Matthew. Jesus feeds those who invited him to feast. But Jesus is not the Messiah who would be a worldly leader but to show mercy and the truth which will set us free and give us happiness. We must grow in faith. Our Lady of Guadalupe helps us in this. St. Matthew was an example of a good response to Christ’s call. He was disposed to conversion and became one of the blessed described in the sermon on the Mount. Holy Mass gives us the Eucharist which is the food that is truth.

Cardinal Burke was here to lead a pilgrimage of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre from Minneapolis to La Crosse and to bid farewell to the FI friars Fr. Peter Fehlner and Fra Joseph Schmitzer who are headed to Griswold, CT.

Sep 20 – Homily – Fr Peter: Whoever Wishes to be Greatest

Homily #150920l ( 14min) Play – Fr. Peter relates the temptation of our Lord in the desert with the need to be open to the life as opposed to the culture of death. As today’s Gospel reads, ‘Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.’ He relates this pro-family attitude to the Church and the Church to Mary. And the Church which seems as insignificant and fragile as a little child in the eyes of the unbeliever will remain through the ages. Serving the children and the childlike will lead to eternal happiness in heaven and in this life as well.

Sep 16 – Homily – Fr Peter: Practice the Virtue of Humility

Homily #150916l ( 09min) Play – Jesus in the Gospel readings tell us, ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance. We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’ Fr. Peter relates this to the vice of pride where they are saying, ‘you are not treating us right’, or ‘Jesus does not act as we want.’ But Jesus blessed Mary by choosing her as His mother because of her humility. Pride of pagan religion, with the emperor being worshiped did not lead to his happiness. Martyrs did find happiness and so did Jesus. We should practice virtue in reparation for vices, and so find happiness both here and in life eternal.

Sep 13 – Homily – Fr Peter: Sacrificing with Jesus

Sunday, September 13th, 2015

Homily #150913l ( 15min) Play – Fr. Peter relates the two readings today for the Traditional Latin Mass. First, St. Paul prays to the Father that his flock be strengthened during times of difficulties so that they can unite themselves to Christ and offer their sacrifices to the Father in order to not miss out in the glory that this receives. He connects this self sacrificial theme to the Gospel reading where Jesus denounces climbing to the first place at the table. Father points to Mary as exemplar at practicing this humble sacrificing.
