Ave Maria!

Fr. Mahan gives the talks at the Spring Marian Day for 2018, May 5th, that had the theme "Our Lady, and the Three-Fold Mission of Christ & the Church: Prophet, Priest, and King." The second talk is on the Kingly Mission to be shepherds, leading people into the Church.

For the other talks: https://airmaria.com/tag/marian-day-may-2018/

Notes taken during talk:

Jesus is the King of Heaven and Earth, but when he came to Earth He came to serve not to be served. His crown is of thorns, cloak of purple given in mockery.

As such, His Kingship is exercised in the role of a shepherd.

We too are called to serve.

Christifideles Laici by John Paul II: http://w2.vatican.va/content/john-paul-ii/en/apost_exhortations/documents/hf_jp-ii_exh_30121988_christifideles-laici.html

Jesus is the Good Shepard who laid down his life for His sheep.

Psalm 23 - He makes me to lie down in green pastures. http://www.usccb.org/bible/psalms/23

Pub in England – Alec Guinness – Soliloquy from Macbeth and others. Then pastor asks for Psalm 23. Yes if pastor does so afterward. Alec showed he know the Psalm. Pastor proved he knew the Shepard.

Your Rod and Staff are my comfort

Sheep won’t lie down on their own especially if they are nervous about wolves or are afflicted. Shepherd protects them and anoints their heads to relieve them of flies and parasites.

Nor will sheep lie down if they are hungry.

Prepares a table before me, as in a Mesa, Plateau

Takes us up to a high place like Peter James and John to Mt. Tabor. Matt 17 http://www.usccb.org/bible/matthew/17

Like the upper room where he feeds them and shows them he is risen.

High place where heaven and earth meet. This is the Eucharist, a different world, eating the bread of angels and the drink of immortality. Super-substantial food.

Daily bread, that is, super-substantial bread

Helps us to lie down when we are hungry, afflicted, or nervous

Mary participates in this kingly mission of Christ.

Mary brings us to the shepherd, to the Super-substantial bread

"Do whatever he tells you." John 2:5 http://www.usccb.org/bible/john/2

Follow her example, her fiat, “Let it be done to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38 http://www.usccb.org/bible/luke/1#50001037

Jesus by being inside of her enables Him to be inside of us in the Eucharist.

And she leads us to the Eucharist.

Storm is coming. Are we going to be the one to calm people in the midst of the storm?

Soothe the afflicted, extend mercy, corporal works of mercy.

We should be leading people to the Eucharist.
