Ave Maria Meditations

Lady, full and overflowing with grace, all creation

receives new life from your abundance. Virgin,

blessed above all creatures, through your blessing

all creation is blessed, not only creation, but the

Creator himself has been blessed by creation.

To Mary God gave his only-begotten Son, whom he

loved as himself. Through Mary, God made himself

a Son, not different but the same, by nature Son of

God and Son of Mary. The whole universe was created

by God, and God was born of Mary.

God created all things, and Mary gave birth to God. The God who

made all things gave himself form through Mary, and

thus he made his own creation. He who could create all

things from nothing would not remake his ruined creation

without Mary.

God, then, is the Father of the created world and Mary

the mother of the re-created world. God is the father by

whom all things were given life, and Mary the mother

through whom all things were given new  life. For God

begot the Son, through whom all things were made, and

Mary gave birth to him as the Savior of the world. Without

God’s Son, nothing could exist; without Mary’s Son, nothing

could be redeemed.

Truly the Lord is with you, to whom the Lord granted

that all nature should owe as much to you as to

himself.

St. Anselm

Hymn

Mary Immaculate; star of the morning,

Chosen before the creation began

Chosen to bring, for thy bridal adorning,

Woe to the serpent and rescue to man.

Here, in an orbit of shadow and sadness,

Veiling thy splendor, thy course thou hast run;

Now thou art throned in all glory and gladness,

Crowned by the hand of the Savior and Son.

Sinners, we worship thy sinless perfection;

Fallen and weak, for thy pity we plead;

Grant us the shield of thy sovereign protection,

Measure thine aid by the depth of our need.

Bend from thy throne at the voice of our crying,

Bend to this earth which thy footsteps have trod;

Stretch out thine arms to us, living and dying,

Mary immaculate, Mother of God.

Homily #101101 ( 12min) Play – Fr. Dominic preaches on the need to desire sanctity in order to get to heaven and this is why we honor all the saints on this Solemnity of All Saints, to spur our desire. This desire must extend beyond our first fervor of a moment of conversion, and be fostered until the day we depart from this life. We must have purity of heart to achieve peace with God and peace among men in the likeness of Mary Immaculate. To get this long-lasting desire we must pray for it.

Ave Maria Meditations

Mary’s look is God’s look on each one of us. She looks at us with the very love of the Father and blesses us. She behaves as our “advocate” — and we invoke her thus in the Salve, Regina: “our advocate.” Even if everyone spoke evil of us, she, the Mother, would say the good, because her immaculate heart is attuned to God’s mercy.

Thus she sees the city:  not as an anonymous agglomeration, but as a constellation where God knows everyone personally by name, one by one, and calls us to shine with his light. And those that in the eyes of the world are the first, for God they are the last; those who are little, are great for God. He recognizes in each one the likeness with his Son Jesus, even if we are so different! But who more than she knows the power of Divine Grace? Who better than she knows that nothing is impossible for God, capable in fact of drawing good from evil?

Dear brothers and sisters, the message we receive here, at the feet of Mary Immaculate, is a message of trust for every person of this city and of the whole world. A message of hope not made of words, but of her own history: she is one of us, who gave birth to the Son of God and has shared all her own existence with him! And today she says to us: this is also your destiny, yours, the destiny of all: to be saints as our Father, to be immaculate as our Brother Jesus Christ, to be loved children, all adopted to form a great family, without limits of nationality, color, language, because God is one, Father of every man.

Thank you, O Mary Immaculate, for always being with us! Always watch over our city: comfort the sick, encourage young people, sustain families. Infuse the strength to reject evil, in every form, and to choose the good, even when it costs and entails going against the current. Give us the joy of feeling loved by God, blessed by Him, predestined to be his children.

Immaculate Virgin, our sweetest Mother, pray for us!

Father explains the reason for Creation: from before time God wishes to share His being with others, because He is Love and love desires another. He wishes to share in everything that is ours so that we might share in everything that is His. For this reason, He came into the world, through His chosen cooperator, from whom He took His human nature: Mary, the Mother of God.

Father explains the Franciscan thesis: that sin was not the reason for the Incarnation, and that Jesus would have become incarnate even if man had not sinned, because it was His will from before Creation to establish communion with His creature. From before Creation, He willed Mary who was never touched by sin to be His mother, but because man had sinned, the Incarnation took place in a redemptive mode, and the Mother of God became the Mother of the Redeemer.

Fr John Lawrence gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Aug 17, 2023, on the life of St. Beatrice of Silva, who started the Conceptionist Poor Clares, and outlines the notable members of this great order.

Today’s Gospel teaches us the importance of forgiveness. If God forgives our vast sins, we should forgive minor offenses by others. [Matthew 18:21-35 – Peter asks Jesus about forgiveness, and Jesus tells the parable of the unforgiving servant – https://bible.usccb.org/bible/matthew/18?21-35]

Saint Beatrice of Silva, born in Ceuta, faced jealousy in the court. Wrongly accused, she was imprisoned but was miraculously saved after praying to Mary Immaculate.

She later founded the Order of the Immaculate Conception. Despite challenges, the order flourished globally. Notable members include Venerable Inés de San Pablo, who promoted Marian consecration, and Venerable María de Jesús Tomelín, who faced trials with humility. Venerable Mary of Agreda bi-located to teach Native Americans and wrote “The Mystical City of God.”

Venerable Maria de Los Ángeles Sorazu emphasized Mary’s role in uniting us with God. She wrote about her spiritual growth through Marian devotion.

Let’s consecrate ourselves to Our Lady and seek sanctity.
