When Jesus commands Simon to go out into deep water (Luke 5:4), the weary fishermen obey despite catching nothing all night. Their trust yields an incredible haul, demonstrating that human labor achieves nothing without Christ, but obedience to His word brings spiritual abundance. This event prefigures the post-Resurrection catch in John 21:11, illustrating the enduring strength and grace of the Church established on Christ.

Awestruck by this divine authority, Peter acknowledges his sinfulness. Jesus reassures him, declaring that he will now be catching men to save souls. This mission extends to every believer today. We are called to cooperate with Christ's grace, defend the Church under Peter and the bishops, live holy lives, and actively participate in bringing souls into the Bark of Peter so they may encounter eternal truth (CCC 852).
