Despite Flawed Leaders, Christ’s Church Will Never Fail – Aug 23 – Homily – Fr Matthias

 

Fr. Matthias M. Sasko gives the homily for the Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time (Aug 23, 2026), reflecting on Jesus’ promise that “the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail” against His Church, and emphasizing that the Church’s strength and endurance depend not on the holiness or abilities of individual popes, bishops, priests, or laypeople, but on Christ, whose Church it is.

Even when the Church experiences scandal, weakness, or turbulent periods, Catholics are called to remain confident, faithful, and missionary, because “Christ is the point” and His Church remains the place where we encounter His truth, His sacraments, and salvation.
