Infinite greatness and glory belongs to God alone.

Apocalypse 19:1 – “After these things I heard as it were the voice of much people in heaven, saying: Alleluia. Salvation, and glory, and power is to our God.”

Our Lord commands us “be therefore you perfect (holy/ living a life of virtue), as your heavenly Father is perfect.” – (Matthew 5:49)

Even Our Lady, who is in heaven, does the will of God. Humility.

48 “…Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

49 Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name.”…

It seems a distinction can be made between a desire for infinite greatness in a wordly sense and a desire for infinite greatness in a heavenly sense. The first is contrary to humility, while the second is not. If it were not so, then the desire for holiness would be contrary to the virtue of humility.

The desire for infinite greatness and glory goes against the very essence of humility.

(Phil 2: 6-8) Have this mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who though he was by nature God, did not consider being equal to God a thing to be clung to (1), but emptied himself, taking the nature of a slave and being made like unto men. And appearing in the form of man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death on a cross.”…

1. ‘Emptied Himself’: not by surrendering the divine nature, which is impossible, but by foregoing the glory attached to it.
