Washington, DC.–Franciscan Monastery

By March 8, 2010From the Web

On our trip for the March for Life in 2009, Father Angelo Mary Geiger, brought us to this beautiful Monastery.  It is a must see if you ever visit D.C.. It is the closest place to the Holy Land we have here.  The interior along with the grounds of the Monastery are beautiful.

I had the privilege of going there several years ago; it is a ‘don’t miss’ place to visit for sure!

Our family went to DC a few years ago and we had a ‘Catholic’ day where we went to the Basilica, to the John Paul II conference Center and to this wonderful Friary with catacombs and all! We’re going to DC again in April so this reminds me to try and do another Catholic Day! Thanks for sharing this.

    Ave Maria!

BTW, dumb question here: What’s the difference between a friary and a monastery? This place in DC is called a monastery. I thought MONKS lived in monasteries (from like Benedictine or Augustinian orders) and Franciscan orders lived in Friaries. I’m so confused …
