Aug 31 – Homily – Fr Ignatius: The Narrow Gate

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010
Click to Play

Homily #100831 ( 09min) Play – How many will be saved? Our Lord tells us that few will be saved. St. Thomas in his clarity and brevity says, “Those who are saved are in the minority.” Why did Our Lord give us this knowledge? He told us that we might never become presumptuous, that we always might be striving to enter the narrow gate. This is a widespread error in our day and age – everyone goes to Heaven. Let us not be fooled by the lukewarmness and religious indifference prevalent today. Let us work out our salvation in fear and trembling.

St Bonaventure focused on the importance of the will in theology as opposed to St Thomas who focused on the intellect. He also worked to ‘refound’ the order when it was in danger of splitting.

The event will be sponsored and moderated by the Vatican Forum of Inside the Vatican magazine and and St. Thomas More College.  It will include discussions from an international group of several major Marian theologians, bishops and cardinals.

Dr. Miravalle addresses the many reasons why it is an appropriate time to proclaim the dogma and addresses  some objections. He also asks us to pray for the success of this historic event.
