Fi News – Two Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate make Solemn Profession

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Ave Maria!

On Sunday 23 Jan, 2011, during a Missa Cantata Mass held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel in Griswold, CT, two Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate, Sr Maria Lydwine Pia of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Sr Maria Consolatrice Stefania of the Immaculate Conception and of the Most Holy Eucharist, made their Solemn Profession of Vows.  The Chapel was filled to near capacity as family and friends gathered to witness this moving ceremony where these two religious sisters vowed for the rest of their lives to live the evangelical councils of poverty, chastity, and obedience, and totally consecrated themselves to Our Blessed Mother by the Marian Vow.

Kneeling on the steps of the Altar is Fr. Angelo Geiger flanked by his two MCs, Friar Isaac and Friar Augustine. In the foreground, the two sisters lie prostrate covered with a Pall during the Litany of the Seraphic Order. The Cantor, Friar David, can be seen in the Pulpit. PHOTOS BY JACQUELINE GIRARD

This was the first time that a Solemn Profession by the Franciscans of the Immaculate has been done in the United States during the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. The friars combined the new with the old as they used high-tech equipment with the 1500 year old form of the Mass.  There was a camera set up in the Choir loft covering the whole of the Sanctuary which was wired into the vestibule where one friar stood in front of a television set monitoring the progress of the ceremony and directing the two MC’s who were  wearing concealed earpieces and listening to the instructions and directions so as to be able to choreograph the various intricate movements of the servers during the Mass. Friar Isaac commented afterward that the communications had worked brilliantly. When he first arrived at the Foot of the Altar, his mind went blank as to what was going to happen next when he heard over his earpiece, “The Priest and MC’s genuflect in plano, ascend the Altar steps, and turn towards the Congregation while the Cross Bearer brings over the chair to the Predella”. Thanks be to God for modern technology!

Variety #105 – Cardinal Burke ( 17min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!
In his homily, Cardinal Burke focused on the need for beauty and splendor in the sacred liturgy, echoing what His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI wrote in the letter accompanying his Moto Proprio “Summorum Pontificum:” “It is not appropriate to speak of these two versions of the Roman Missal as if they were ‘two Rites’.  Rather, it is a matter of a twofold use of one and the same rite.” And “What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful.  It behooves all of us to preserve the riches which have developed in the Church’s faith and prayer, and to give them their proper place…”

Fi News – Pontifical High Mass with Cardinal Burke

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

On Sunday, December 26th, His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke offered a Pontifical Solemn High Mass at the Seminary of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in Rome. The Mass was offered in honor of Fr. Stefano Maria Manelli, being his patronal feast day, and in thanksgiving for the elevation of His Eminence to the Cardinalate. The Mass was sung by the combined choirs of the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Immaculate from various convents of the F.I. in Italy, and was conducted by Sr. Maria Cecilia Manelli and Fr. Giovanni Maria Manelli – resulting in an outstanding example of the magnificence the Mass is meant to have. The Friars and Sisters also had the honor of hosting His Excellency Bishop Gino Reali of the local diocese of Porto-Santa Rufino, Rome.

Conferences #89 – Fr. Peter wraps-up the Coredemption Conference ( 09min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

For the conclusion to our symposium “Mother of the Church” on Marian Coredemption in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 21, 2010, Fr. Peter Fehlner, rector of the shrine, expounds on three practical points in summary:

  1. Make Mary the Center of your life,  because this is the way that Jesus wants to give us happiness.
  2. Work for the salvation of everyone through the good example of consecrating ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
  3. Push the Solemn Definition of the Fifth Marian Dogma.

A short but profound to-do list to enable all of us to accomplish great things in the Church for the glory of God.

Drew Mariani of Relevant Radio was MC of the symposium.

Highlights from the Solemn High Mass according to the Extraordinary Form, celebrated in Saint John Lateran Basilica, by the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Immaculate. All sacred music sung by the Friars and Sisters (Polyphony and Gregorian Chant) This is the first time that the traditional Mass has been celebrated in the pope’s chair since Vatican II. Quite a magnificent sight to behold! Video from Gloria TV
