Ave Maria! Dr Timothy Noone, professor of Scotistic Philosophy at Catholic University, gives the 2nd talk of the Newman-Scotus Symposium presented by the Conventual Franciscans at the Washington Theological Union on Oct 22-24, 2010. He titled his talk Blessed Johns Duns Scotus on Intuitive Cognition, Abstractive Cognition, Scientific Knowledge and Our Knowledge of God. He discusses the cognitive process according to Scotus as it compares to that of the more familiar Thomas Aquinas. His goal is to give the background of Scotus’ teaching on the process of human knowledge in order to provide a basis for discussing the similarities with Bl. John Henry Newman in his next talk the following day. (more…) |

Mary Vitamin for August 5thTopic: The Woman of the Bible and Our Mother Quote: [Mary] is the real, physical Mother of the Messiah; she is the real mystical Mother of the Church, the new people of God. This is the thread, that, without a break in continuity, starts with Genesis and reaches to Revelation, passing through Cana and Calvary. Father Stefano Manelli, FI, All Generations Shall Call Me Blessed, (Academy of the Immaculate: 1989), 356. Meditation: Fr. Stefano Manelli, FI On this subject, a passage interesting and rich in insight, accurate as it is delicate, has been written by I. de La Potterie: A very important insight of modern exegesis has brought to light how the mystery of Mary in some way forms a synthesis of all of the preceding revelation about the people of God, (more…) |

Ave Maria! All Christians profess their belief that Christ will (or already has ) returned. But what that exactly means and how that will (or already has) come about can vary greatly. One of those differences is in the understanding of the “1000 years” reign of Christ spoken of in the book of revelation. How can we rightly interpret this in light of other Scripture passages? Marycast #71 ( Ave Maria! +++ “At all times there have not been lacking persons having the spirit of prophecy, not indeed for the declaration of any new doctrine of faith, but for the direction of human acts.” Bl. Pope John XXIII incorporated this statement from Thomas Aquinas into his statement on private revelation in 1959. Private revelation has always been part of the Church’s history. How are we to understand it’s relevance for us? What are the Church’s criterion for evaluating private revelations? Listen now to this fascinating topic as explained by Dr. Miravalle.

Ave Maria Meditations
And behold a voice from heaven saying: This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (Mt.3:17)
The prophecies of the Old Testament are fulfilled in the New Testament: (Is.42:1) Behold, my servant, whom I uphold; my chosen, in whom my soul delights. God the Father: (Mt. 17:5) from the cloud there came a voice which said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.” The Mother of Jesus: (Jn.2:5) His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you’. |
Ave Maria! Msgr. Arthur Burton Calkins (bio) an internationally renowned Marian Theologian and an official of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei gave a talk titled “Our Lady of All Nations, the Woman of Genesis and the Apocalypse” at our Amsterdam Coredemption Conference on May 31, 2008. In this excellent, scholarly talk Msgr. Calkins connects the Marian apparition on Our Lady of All Nations and many other approved apparitions with that of the woman of the proto-evangelicum in Genesis and of the Apocalypse and so connects a wide spread of Marian private revelation with the entirety of Biblical Revelation all in support of the Coredemption. For more information on the Amsterdam Coredemption Conference: http://airmaria.com/events/Amsterdam/Amsterdam.htm The sound is a little poor at first but it improves after the first few minutes so please bear with us. Ave Maria! This week Dr Mark Miravalle explains Mary’s title of Advocate for the People of God. Starting with the Old Testament concept of Queen Mother mentioned in previous posts, Dr. Mark points out that Mary becomes the Queen Mother at the moment she gives her glorious fiat. This is confirmed just days afterwards when she visits Elizabeth who calls her “the Mother of My Lord” under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. As Queen Mother her primary role is to intercede for us with her Son, the King. Thus she is our Advocate. Listen as Dr. Mark then gives two New Testament examples of this intercession, the Feast of Cana, John 2, and the Woman Clothed with the Sun, Revelation 11 and 12. Ave Maria! |
