Face of Pro-Life #176 – Bill O’Brien and Corinn Dahm discuss the HHS Mandate ( 29min) >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
Bill O’Brien of CT Right for Life explains the nature of the HHS mandate for contraception. He discusses with hostess Corinn Dahm how it violates the First Amendment rights of Catholics, how the Obama ‘compromise’ is no compromise at all and is effectively not even a change from the original, offensive mandate. They cover the many political forces pushing for contraception (pharmaceuticals, abortion providers, hedonists, population control advocates) the effects of contraception on health and families and on women. They ask why is contraception being offered for free when life saving medication and procedures are not free, but require a co-pay? Why artificial birth-control is offered completely free and natural family planning is not funded at all.

Ave Maria!
John Martin discusses with host Corinn Dahm the growing conflict between Catholic morals and government policy which is pitting Bishops vs Politicians. This is exemplified by the recent clash between Senator Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island and Archbishop Tobin of Providence, RI over abortion funding in health care. They discuss the ramifications of the government funded heath care on the quality of medical services and its effects on religious liberty for medical personnel and Catholic Hospitals.

Ave Maria!
While we were at the Connecticut State Capitol to cover the vote on gay ‘marriage’ and the related religious liberty issues, we ran into Fr. Doug Mosey the rector of Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, CT and several of his seminarians. They were there in force to support the adding of conscientious objection clauses in the bill for religious organizations and in support of religious liberty for all Americans. In the interview he gives a fascinating account of Holy Apostles and the people who attend.

Roving Reporter #61 – Peter Wolfgang on religious liberty in CT ( 07min) >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
We went to the Connecticut State Capitol yesterday to get the scoop on the efforts to protect religious freedom in the face of the impending vote on the same-sex ‘marriage’ bill and Peter Wolfgang of the Family Institute of CT (FIC) generously gave the Roving Reporter and interview. As predicted, the bill passed the Senate and the House but not before having some important amendments attached that at least partially protect foundational liberties thanks to the action of FIC, the Knights of Columbus, the National Organization for Marriage and the 20,000 Connecticut citizens who called their legislators. The Hartford Currant has a full story of some of the secular points but as Peter Wolfgang points out in one of the FIC’s emails:
Make no mistake: The amendment is not perfect and SB 899 itself is the result of an illegitimate court ruling, not the will of the people. … An FIC-supported amendment to require parents be notified before “gay-friendly” curricula are taught in schools and be allowed to “opt out” was defeated in the Senate and the House. Watch for more information on that vote and what you can do about it.
Well, most of the points that FIC and friends pushed for were added to the amendment which had been rejected by the Judiciary Committee a few weeks earlier. A good day for liberty. Deo Gratias!

| Ave Maria! Some testing on and off until 11am, start of main broadcast. Keep the Prayers going!
Take note! If you wonder why such a crazy bill has been introduced, it is widely rumored that it is to distract the attention of the Church and pro family groups from another bill, SB 899, that codifies into law the CT Supreme Court Kerrigan Case that instituted same sex ‘marriage’ in Connecticut. At issue there is the lack of any conscientious objection clauses in the bill and so it directly effects religious liberty and is much more likely to pass. So the emphasis of today will be to keep the Republicans and all citizens focused on SB 899. |

Air Maria News #1 – Brian Brown defends traditional marriage >>> Play |
|
|
|
[This is a re-post of an earlier video from April 2007 which has Rep. Michael Lawlor grilling Brian Brown, then Executive Director of CT Family Institute (it starts at 4:22). Lawlor, along with Andrew McDonald, is the one who recently introduced Bill #1098 that directly and brazenly attacks the authority of Catholic bishops and pastors in the state of Connecticut. In this video they debate the Same Sex Marriage bill also introduced by Lawlor and McDonald. It gives a good look at the persistent drive of Lawlor (a self-proclaimed homosexual) in trying to pin the "bigotry" label on Brian and the Catholic Church merely for opposing gay marriage. The bill died in committee so there is good reason to believe that Bishop Lori has it right when he says this bill is "a thinly-veiled attempt to silence the Catholic Church" in regard to opposing things like same sex marriage. See our post below.
Brian Brown has since moved on to the the National Organization for Marriage where he spearheaded Proposition 8 against Gay Marriage in California.]

Ave Maria!
This is a special AIRMARIA report on the status of religious liberty in America, relative to the ongoing push on the part of the homosexual lobby for full same-sex marriage in Connecticut. Last year same-sex civil unions were legalized by the state assembly with an amendment defining marriage as a union of one man and one woman.
In Connecticut, same-sex couples already have all the rights and benefits of married people, just not the name “marriage.” This year they are back for what they call “equality,” but in reality the legalization of same-sex marriage in Connecticut will only codify the defense of traditional marriage as a form of discrimination.
Witness the erosion of your religious liberty! This assault will not stop at the state line. The same-sex marriage lobby wishes to challenge the federal Defense of Marriage Act. This affects you, no matter where you live in America.
On March 26, Brian Brown, Executive director of the Family Institute of Connecticut, testified before the judiciary committee of the state legislature in regard to raised House Bill 7395: An Act Concerning Marriage Equality. He was grilled on the question of commitment to civil rights and his religious convictions. Brian defended both traditional marriage and religious liberty in an eloquent and courageous way. He continues to be attacked on the FIC blog. In this video Brian also tells us what we can do to protect religious liberty.
Don’t underestimate this attack on religious liberty. This has implications for us all. Bill Donohue of the Catholic League has picked up on the threat and is bringing it to national attention. This video is a good synthesis of what happened last Monday.
