Conferences #105 – Fr. Peter in his Second Lecture for the Symposium ( 64min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

Lecture 5 of the Newman-Scotus Symposium is by Rev. Dr. Fehlner: Scotus and Newman in Dialogue: Examples of Scotistic Affinities in Newman, the Will, the Critical Question (of Interiorization) and Faith

Fr. Peter first comments on Dr. Noone’s last talk that Newman and Scotus disagrees with each other on process of assent. But this is not the starting point. Going to God given the differences is difficulty. Scotus term simplicite simplex, Perfect being, that is God and so radically different. But they have a common starting point in their Christology and Mariology.

Fr. Peter mentions:

  • Key is to find where Newman fits in the Franciscan view (more…)

Nov 18 – Homily – Fr Dominic: Focus on the Supernatural

Homily #101118 ( 08min) Play – Today’s Gospel is the account of Peter coming to Jesus who is walking on water. Peter is able to walk on the water as well, so long as he keeps focused on Jesus. But, when he looks at the violence of the waves he panics and starts to sink. Fr Dominic uses this to exhort us to keep our lives focused on the supernatural and not on the many natural troubles we may have.

Conferences #89 – Fr. Peter wraps-up the Coredemption Conference ( 09min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

For the conclusion to our symposium “Mother of the Church” on Marian Coredemption in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 21, 2010, Fr. Peter Fehlner, rector of the shrine, expounds on three practical points in summary:

  1. Make Mary the Center of your life,  because this is the way that Jesus wants to give us happiness.
  2. Work for the salvation of everyone through the good example of consecrating ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
  3. Push the Solemn Definition of the Fifth Marian Dogma.

A short but profound to-do list to enable all of us to accomplish great things in the Church for the glory of God.

Drew Mariani of Relevant Radio was MC of the symposium.

Homily #100930 ( 04min) Play – Today is the Memorial of St. Jerome Doctor of the Church and writer of the Latin Vulgate. Fr. Ignatius points out that in order to get the truth that is in scripture you must have the right interpretation and thus God has not only given us scripture but an infallible interpreter of it as scripture itself clearly states in 1Tim 3:15 Pillar and foundation of truth is the Church. And Mat 16:18 On this rock (Peter) I will build my Church and the gates of hell (error) will not prevail against it.

Mary Vitamin – Sixth Joy of Our Lady

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Mary Vitamin

Mary Vitamin for August 23rd

Topic: Our Lady’s Joy in the Resurrection of Her Son

(The sixth mystery in the Franciscan Crown — Feast August 26)

Quote:

St. Teresa of Avila

One day after receiving Communion, it seemed most clear to me that Our Lord sat beside me; He told me that immediately after His resurrection He went to see our Lady because she then had great need and that the pain she experienced so absorbed and transpierced her soul that she did not return immediately to herself to rejoice in that joy. By this I understood how different was this other transpiercing, the one of my soul. But what must have been that transpiercing of the blessed Virgin’s soul! He also said that He had remained a long time with her because it was necessary in order to console her.

St. Teresa of Avila, Spiritual Testimonies, (ICS Publications: 1985), 390-91.

Quote used in Mary Vitamin #153

Meditation:

Imagine after days of painfully placing herself in God’s presence in prayer, with the agony of the Cross fresh before her mind’s eye, what a joy it was for our Lady to see the Lord in glory, alive and well and to speak with Him with no effort on her part.

I Peter 1:6-9

There is cause for rejoicing here. You may for a time have to suffer the distress of many trials; but this is so that your faith, which is more precious than the passing splendor of fire-tried gold, may by its genuineness lead t0 praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ appears.

When Our Lord appeared to Our Lady and “remained a long time with her because it was necessary to console her” did Our Lady ask about her holy spouse and parents? Did she receive “news” from the Lord about the happiness experienced by her beloved family members? Was this a part of Our Lady’s joy in the Resurrection? She saw her Son’s victory over death and the consequences for those she loved.

Resolution:

Today before beginning my usual prayers, I will call to mind the visit of Our Lord to Our Lady after the Resurrection. I will try to enter prayer with the joy of Our Lady and remember that it took her a long time with the Lord before she experienced the joy of the Resurrection.

Marian Vow:

Father Gabriel Allegra, O.F.M.

Precisely here is the essence of consecration: always to look carefully at the Immaculate Mother. Her mere look will indicate her wishes, will help one to put them into practice. And thus we will generously and easily do the will of the Father.

Mary’s Immaculate Heart, A Way to God, (Franciscan Herald Press: 1985), 76.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

Variety #77 – Peter Wolfgang  ( 33min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

Peter Wolfgang, Executive Director of the Family Institute of Connecticut (FIC), gives a talk at the Knights of Columbus Council #2087 in North Grosvenordale, CT for their fund-raising event to benefit FIC. He relates the current atmosphere of anti-religious bigotry prevailing in politics with that in the time of Fr. McGivney in New Haven, CT in late 1800′s that prompted him to start the Knights of Columbus. He especially mentions the grossly Anti-Catholic bill SB-1098 introduced in the CT  Legislature in 2009 and the recent ACLU attack on FIC, a local Baptist Church in Bloomfield and a high school in Enfield, CT which you can read about here. Peter points out that the irrationality of these attacks suggest a vindictive payback to Catholics and Baptist for joining ranks with FIC to successfully stop gay marriage in the CT legislature.

Apr 18 – Homily – Fr Bonaventure: The Church, Unbreakable Net

Homily #100418 ( 31min) Play – Fr. Bonaventure preaches on today’s Gospel account of the Apostles casting their nets on the right side of the boat on the command of the resurrected Lord. They then haul in a great number or of very large fish but even then the nets do not break. This unbreakable net is a symbol of the unbreakable Church that will catch all nations. He emphasizes that this will be tightly bound to the ministry of Peter and his successors in the office of Vicar of Christ who will “Feed my sheep” at the proper time.

Feb 28 – Homily – Fr Angelo: Transforming Transfiguration

Sunday, February 28th, 2010
Click to Play

Homily #100228 ( 16min) Play – Fr. Angelo Geiger preaches on today’s Gospel of the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor in front of Peter, James and John. Jesus does this in order to strengthen the faith of his disciples so that they could survive the scandal of the Crucifixion. We need to take note that only one of these three disciples remained with Jesus at the foot of the Cross. So we need to make sure that we fully apprehend all the revelations that we are given through our Holy Faith, especially Our Lord’s presence in the Eucharist.
