Sep 12 – Homily – Fr. Dominic: Merciful Parables

Sunday, September 12th, 2010
Click to Play

Homily #100912 ( 23min) Play – In today’s Gospel we have the parables of mercy, the lost coin, the lost sheep, and to top it off, the parable of the prodigal son. Fr Dominic, during his first homily as the guardian of the friary here in Griswold, emphasizes the greatness of this mercy that is almost too good to be true if it weren’t spoken by Truth Himself. We need mercy and, fortunately, God wants to give it if we humble ourselves with true contrition for our sins and a firm resolve to reform our lives and persevere in this. This firmness of our resolve is the necessary and only worthy response to this great mercy that our great God is offering.  He also exhorts us to show mercy to others and pray for each other and to make use of the sacrament of mercy, that is, Confession, and the intercession of the saints. All of which is consistent with a firm resolve to amend our lives.

Homily #100314 ( 17min) Play – Today is Laetare Sunday, the Fourth Sunday in Lent, which is like Gaudete Sunday in Advent, a day of joy in the midst of a season of penance.  Common to both these days are the joyful rose vestments and Fr. Bonaventure relates this to the Gospel of the day which is the parable of of the Prodigal Son and how the son is robed in festive vestments due to the father’s joy in the return of his wayward son. Dominus Est

Ave Maria Meditations

There, where my dear Jesus dwells,

where He is enthroned in the tabernacle,

there I wish to be kneeling continually.

There, I wish to pray unceasingly:

Jesus, I love You deeply.

Hidden Love, I adore You.

Abandoned Love, I adore You.

Despised Love, I adore You.

Love trampled underfoot, I adore You.

Infinite Love, dying on the Cross for us, I adore You.

My dear Lord and Savior,

make it be that I am all love and expiation

toward the Most Blessed Sacrament

in the heart of Your most loving Mother Mary.

Amen.

-by Maria Stang

(a woman who persevered in her faith under the cruel

Communist atheistic rule for many years and who taught and

brought the faith to many,

keeping the love of the Lord in the most Blessed Sacrament alive)
